Flower earrings, 3/8" disc

Japantown Collection - Earrings

The Japantown Collection is named in honour of the area of Vancouver where my studio is located. Right in the heart of the Downtown Eastside, Japantown was one of the original settlement areas and home to Vancouver's original Japanese inhabitants. Once a thriving area, there are still remnants of that time, such as the Japanese Language Academy, one street over from the studio.

The jewellery features etchings taken from traditional Japanese fabric dyeing stencils. Once etched into the metal, each piece is individually cut out, filed, sanded, formed on a doming block, patinated, and soldered, wired or riveted. All done by hand, each one is unique and one of a kind.

The small disc shaped earrings range in size from 3/8" to 1/2" diameter and are delicate and light weight.

Delicate copper earrings etched with part of a flower design taken from a Japanese traditional fabric dyeing stencil. Each disc is cut out individually, sanded, patinated and lightly domed. No two are the same. Size of disc is 3/8" across.

Ear wires are made from recycled sterling silver. Disc is made from copper reclaimed from industrial castoffs, thus there may be small imperfections on the surface of the metal.
