Johnson - Etched with a photograph of a fall tree in Vancouver's West End, overlooking Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park, this copper and sterling silver pendant will delight nature lovers as well as those who love Vancouver, whether a visitor or resident. Each etching in this line has been photographed in one of Vancouver's lovely parks, neighbourhoods or gardens and has a story of Vancouver's history to tell.

Stanley Park is the gem of Vancouver, a huge urban oasis in the heart of the city. It's the final resting place of Native Canadian poet Pauline Johnson, whom this pendant is named after. She settled in Vancouver in her retirement from performing, and lived in the West End. She loved to paddle in Coal Harbour and named Lost Lagoon, which was originally a salt water tidal basin between Coal Harbour and English Bay. The waters would disappear at low tide leaving her sheltered cove as mud flats and inspiring one of her poems. Now cut off from the tide by the causeway running through the park, it's a fresh water lake home to numerous waterfowl and you can see ducks, swans and herons all year long.

This pendant is made of copper with a sterling silver border and has a brushed finish. It's just under an inch and a half in diameter, with a dark patina to bring out the details. The back has been etched with a design from Japanese Sashiko embroidery, to reflect the neighbourhood my studio is in, the former Japantown, in the heart of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver.

The pendant and bail are handmade. I use reclaimed copper and recycled silver and etch the patterns using low voltage electricity and a weak metal salt solution which is far less toxic than etching with acid. It has been sealed with a skin safe, non toxic coating to protect the patina and prevent tarnish. Clean with a soft cloth, mild soap and warm water only.

The pendant comes with an 18" sterling silver chain or a leather neck cord with sterling silver ends. You can choose which one you wish from the drop down box. It arrives in a reusable gift tin, featuring a photograph that one of the etchings is taken from.
